According to Grayscale, Bitcoin (BTC) remains the most popular cryptocurrency in the United States, but BTC investors are also betting on other digital assets.
Grayscale reports that the leading smart contract platform Ethereum is the most popular altcoin among BTC owners in its third annual Bitcoin investor study, which surveyed 1,000 US consumers (ETH).
According to the crypto titan, 44% of Bitcoin investors invest in ETH. Dogecoin (DOGE) is the second most popular cryptocurrency, with 44 percent of BTC holders also owning the original meme coin.
"Investing in cryptocurrency is not a zero-sum game."
The majority of Bitcoin investors (87%) also have exposure to one or more altcoins.
Ethereum, the go-to platform for DeFi [decentralized finance] and NFT [non-fungible token] projects, and Dogecoin are the most popular altcoins to own."
According to the report, Litecoin (LTC) is owned by 26% of BTC holders, making it the third most popular altcoin on the list. Cardano comes after LTC (ADA). ADA is owned by 15% of the Bitcoin investors polled in the study.
Bitcoin owners are investing in other digital assets as new tokens emerge in the crypto market and new crypto sectors, such as DeFi and the metaverse, gain popularity.
